Barnet POS: Standalone Mode

A connection loss occurs when a POS till is unable to communicate with the Server/Office PC. This may happen due to:

  • The Server/Office PC being turned off or restarted
  • A power outage
  • Network or network equipment issues
  • The Server/Office PC entering sleep mode

When Connection Is Lost

When Barnet POS loses connection to the server database, a prompt will appear giving you the option to enter Standalone Mode.

Select Standalone Mode. This allows the till to continue operating and processing transactions while the server connection is unavailable.

When operating in Standalone Mode, a red "L" will appear on the database/coin stack icon.

Operating in Standalone Mode

The till can continue to process sales normally. However, keep in mind that recent changes from the server may not be available, including new items or pricing changes activated that day.

Transactions completed while in Standalone Mode are stored locally on the till until they can be synchronized back to the server.

Reconnecting & Synchronizing

Once the connection to the Server/Office PC has been restored, relaunch Barnet POS. You will be given the option to:

Synchronize – Transfer the transactions completed in Standalone Mode back to the server database.

Continue in Standalone Mode – Continue operating locally without reconnecting to the server.

Select Synchronize once you are confident the server connection has been restored.

Important: Synchronization may take some time to complete. The amount of time will depend on the database size and how long the till was operating in Standalone Mode. Do not interrupt the synchronization process.

Once synchronization is complete and the connection has returned to normal, the red "L" will disappear from the database/coin stack icon.

If Synchronization Fails

If the till is unable to synchronize:

  1. Restart the Server/Office PC.
  2. Restart the affected POS till.
  3. If necessary, restart network equipment such as the router or network switch.
  4. Relaunch Barnet POS and attempt to Synchronize again.
  5. If synchronization continues to fail, contact Barnet Support for assistance.
